UP THERE

UP THERE is a documentary about the art of hand-painted advertising murals.  Apparently, vinyl has replaced hand-painted pieces in pretty much every US city except for New York and Los Angeles. This is an amazing art- one that takes years to learn.  The men interviewed describe apprenticeships which hearken back to the way things were [...]

Modern Metaphors – offering a limited but GOOD view

We take our current viewpoints and paradigms for granted. As I am learning Jeremy Rifkin’s Empathic Civilization, our language, society, and even sense of self is by no means given- nor is the way we look at the world. In fact, the means by which we reconcile with and explain the world evolves along with our society and technology.

Short Films and Modern Life: Part II

Remix Culture & Loving Life

I have been brushing up on my Boing Boing lately, and came across this excellent discussion on the evolution of remix culture. Normative makes some excellent points, and draws interesting disdinctions.  He points out that these mashups and remixes have the power to alter “the way we relate to each other.  All of our social [...]

Happy February!

First, I want to share this: Found it on obsessivecompulsive.  I’m rather ready for it- augmented hyper-reality, that is.  Heck, I feel as though a lot of us are practically there. Second, I want to give a heads up for some very fun posts this month! I’m going to start rolling out trend spotting company [...]

2057 & 3-D Dolphin Buddies

I love it when people share their visions for the future.  Have you seen Discovery’s 2057?  It’s a three-part series that explores the potential future of The Body, The City, and The World.  Here’s The City: In each part, Discovery (with the help of Michio Kaku) shares various technological conveniences we might enjoy in the [...]
